  • Christmas Day!

    I wish I could write down in a song all the wonderful things that have happened this Christmas season.  I have seen rebel children return to Jesus and their parents.  I have seen truly skilled musicians condescend to lesser men and come play music with me.  I have experienced true growth as a believer is Jesus Christ.  I have worked beside someone who I never believed I would be able to work with.  I have seen generosity in a time when the future is uncertain.  In a word, I have seen the grace of God on man here in Columbus this season.  The grace of God in my life.  How great a song it would be to be able to capture the grace of God toward us.  Merry Christmas!

  • I'm a Dirt Slave Now!

    It's funny, even my father kind of discouraged me from becoming a home owner.  I've never been the fix it man.  I've never been the clean it man.  Heck, when it comes to working in general I've really never been in favor of it.

    My dreams when I was younger was never staying in the same place very long.  Travel, music, interesting people and then move on.  Missionary work always appealed to me.  Reading about Paul traveling to distant lands and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.  I kind of over looked the whole getting beaten and thrown out of towns, shipwrecked and being thrown in prison stuff!

    I've asked many traveling people as they come through town how they manage to be a part of the Church and raise a family.  Most don't have a good answer for me.  Sooo...out of great love for my wife, family and staying true to my values I become a dirt slave.  God and I have talked a lot about this and He has assured me growth of character out of the whole experience.  So here we go!  Oh...is that the furnace whining again.  Clay, stop cutting the kitchen floor with that knife.  No Dee, you can't paint horses on the walls.  Now everyone get outside so we can rake the yard.  Does anyone know how to get to the dump?

  • Being a Man!

    My friend Phil shared this with me many years ago and I find myself reading it again this morning.  Sometimes I wonder if I will ever grow up.  There are so many ditches to fall into.  Just when I think I'm on the path I find another pit to work my way out of.  Lord, help me today to be a man.  This child needs a word from his Father so he can be a better father.

    Thank you for the words to express my deepest needs.  Thank you for your Word!  Thank you!

    IF by Rudyard Kipling

    If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or, being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
    If you can dream - and not make dreams your master; If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with triumph and disaster And treat those two imposters just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to broken, And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;
    If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breath a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";
    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch; If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run - Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

  • Why I don't go to concerts?

    I love music but I have never been a concert goer!  You know why?  I've got a sign on me the says, "Come lavish me with your six pack breath and talk as much as you want during songs.  I'm a christian I won't turn around and kick your @#(@$!"

    Well, my friend Randy called me and invited me to go hear Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs.  I like Randy, so I say yes.  Guess who found me at the concert!  Yep!  That's right!  That's why I don't go to concerts.
